South Antelope Valley Emergency Services

SAVES is dedicated to alleviating hunger among very low and extremely low income* working families, elderly, disabled and homeless in the south Antelope Valley (Palmdale, Littlerock, Pearblossom, Llano, Lake Los Angeles with Palmdale Zip code, Acton and Lake Elizabeth). SAVES helps sustain the lives of thousands of people by assisting them with nutritious food, education and referrals in cooperation with other agencies.

We envision a community in which all people have access to healthy food and other basic necessities of life. We are committed to working collaboratively to develop a healthier, food-secure community through direct service and advocacy. Each day, we manifest the values of service, compassion and justice in our work.

The day-to-day operations of SAVES and staffing are funded through Community Development Block Grants (CDBG). Food is provided through a collaboration with the Los Angeles Regional Food Bank, federal programs, and the daily contributions of local markets, stores and restaurants. SAVES donates extra food to local senior centers, sober living homes and other food assistance programs.

Founded in 1983, SAVES is a City of Palmdale program managed by the Neighborhood Services department.

What We Do
  • Working in collaboration with the Los Angeles Regional Food Bank, we bring thousands of pounds of food directly to our neighbors in need to ensure that emergency and daily food needs are met.

  • We provide nutritious meals and well-balanced bags of groceries four days a week. We are the only local food pantry ready to serve any needy person in south Antelope Valley.

  • We offer holiday food baskets to families in need in November and December; December baskets also include toys for needy kids.

  • We teach bilingual nutrition education to increase our clients’ nutrition and consumer knowledge.

  • We provide referrals to other community agencies and programs, and partner with local health and social services providers in their outreach efforts to our clients.

  • We provide a meaningful opportunity for volunteers, students, and low-income adult and senior job trainees to serve their community.

  • We stay abreast of the impact of nutrition, poverty, and unemployment in our community, advocate to end poverty and promote food security, nutrition and health.
