The City’s next General Municipal Election is Tuesday, November 8, 2016.

Polls open 7:00 a.m., close 8:00 p.m.


For election of the following officers
Full Term of Office
Mayor to be elected Citywide Full term of two (2) years
Two (2) members of City Council from District One (1) and District Two (2)
Full term of four (4) years
Two (2) members of City Council from District Three (3) and District Four (4)
Full term of two (2) years

Council District One (1) is generally located in the southern portion of the City; Council District Two (2) is generally located in the western portion of the City; Council District Three (3) is generally located in the central portion of the City; and District Four (4) is generally located in the eastern portion of the City.

When is the Nomination Filing Period to the file documents with the City Clerk to run for office?

Monday, July 18, 2016 through Friday, August 12, 2016 by 5:00 p.m.

Is there a Nomination Extension period if an incumbent does not file?

If nomination papers are not filed by August 12, 2016 by 5:00 p.m. by an incumbent in any Council District or the Mayoral seat, the nomination period shall be extended until Wednesday, August 17, 2016 at 6:00 p.m. for persons other than the incumbent.  Election Code §10225.

When can I make an appointment with the City Clerk to receive my Nomination Papers and Candidate Handbook during the Nomination Filing Period (Monday, July 18, 2016 through Friday, August 12, 2016 by 5:00 p.m.)?

It is recommended that Candidates make an appointment with the City Clerk’s office, during the Nomination Filing Period (Monday, July 18, 2016 through Friday, August 12, 2016 by 5:00 p.m.), to receive their Nomination Paper and Candidate Handbook.

The appointment can last up to 45 minutes as the City Clerk will go through all filing requirements and an overview of general information.

What is the Last Day to register to vote for the City’s General Municipal Election on November 8, 2016?

The Last Day to register to vote in the November 8, 2016 Election is Monday, October 24, 2016 (15 days before the election).

If you are registered to vote in the City of Palmdale and move from one district to another without updating your voter registration, you can vote a provisional ballot in your new district - bring your driver’s license and a photo ID.
