Over 100 years ago, when land in the Antelope Valley sold for fifty cents an acre, a group of Swiss and German families migrated from the midwest and named their new community "Palmenthal."
Today Palmdale is one of the fastest-growing cities in California. Affordable housing, excellent schools and over 300 days a year of smog-free blue sky contribute to an excellent lifestyle.
Despite its growth, Palmdale continues to cherish the small-town values of a family-oriented community while enjoying all of the conveniences provided by its rapidly expanding commercial sector.
Palmdale is a General Law City governed under the Council/Manager form of local government. The mayor is elected every two years for a two-year term. Also every two years, two of the four councilmembers are elected to serve four-year terms.
City Council meetings are held on the first and third Wednesdays of each month. Meetings begin at 7 pm in the City Council Chamber, 38300 Sierra Highway, Suite 'B'.
In the months of November and December, Council will only meet on the first Wednesday and not on the third Wednesday of these two months.
