The planning department administers development functions including application review, specific plans, General Plan, Zoning Ordinance/Map and annexations. This department also provides staff support to the Planning Commission.

Business License

This division of the planning department issues business licenses to for-profit businesses that plan to conduct business within the City of Palmdale, even if the company is located outside the City. A business license is also required to operate a businesses outside the City when the base operation is located within the City. Non-profit groups are not required to obtain a business license, but are requested to register with the business license division.

The City of Palmdale employs state-trained public officers who enforce all aspects of the Municipal Code and the City of Palmdale Zoning Ordinance. Examples of violations would be: lack of trash service; lack of property maintenance; illegal signs and banners; parking violations; public nuisances; setback and right-of-way issues; illegal or unmaintained fences, gates and walls; health and safety issues; graffiti; home occupation violations; weed and trash abatement; and open and accessible or vacant properties.
