Starting a Neighborhood Watch Group
Contact the crime prevention office at 661/267-5181. The office will send you a packet of information to help you get started.
After reviewing your packet ask your neighbors about convenient dates to schedule your first Neighborhood Watch meeting. Once you have a few dates selected, contact the crime prevention office to schedule your meeting. The crime prevention office needs at least three weeks notice to schedule a meeting.
Once you schedule your meeting with the crime prevention office, you will be provided with a flyer announcing the meeting.
If possible, meet in the home of a neighbor to foster an informal, comfortable atmosphere. If no one wants to host the meeting in their home, contact a local church or school and see if they will offer space for a meeting.
Remind everyone of the meeting date as it approaches (two to three days before).
Orientation meeting topics include:
- Crime prevention programs offered by the crime prevention office and Sheriff's Department
- Neighborhood Watch program overview
- How to obtain Neighborhood Watch signs
- How citizens can become the Sheriffs Department's "eyes and ears"
- How to report a crime
Additional meetings can be scheduled on a variety of different topics.
