  1. When and how can I sign up to participate?
    Registration will open at 8 am on Monday, October 1, 2007.

    You may register on the City's Web site at www.PalmdaleRoseFloat.com or by calling the Palmdale Parks and Recreation office at 661/267-5611.  Those that wish to register in person may do so at the Palmdale Parks and Recreation office Monday through Friday 8am-4:30pm located at 38260 10th Street East.

  2. What will the float look like?
    The city's float design will be revealed on Monday, October 1, 2007.  Images of the design may be viewed at www.PalmdaleRoseFloat.com.

  3. Where will the float be built?
    The City of Palmdale's float is built in Duarte, CA at Fiesta Parade Floats approximately 75 miles from Palmdale.

  4. Will transportation to Duarte be provided?
    On select shifts, bus transportation is provided for $5 per decoration day. Buses board at the Palmdale Transportation Center. Seats must be reserved in advance with a $5/decoration day reservation fee.

  5. Who will build the float?
    The city's float is built by Fiesta Parade Floats and decorated by over 500 participants from in and around the Antelope Valley.

  6. Who can sign up to decorate the float?
    The only requirement is that you must be 13 years of age or older. There are roles for limited mobility decorators and older participants alike. You do not have to be a Palmdale resident to participate.

  7. My child is under 13 years old. Why can't he/she participate?
    The Tournament of Roses Association has strict guidelines for safety and legal reasons regarding who can and cannot be in the decoration tents in Duarte.

  8. Do I have to sign up with my child?
    There is a mandatory ratio of 1 responsible adult for every 5 minors. If your child is under the age of 18, a responsible adult must accompany them to the decoration site. This adult may be a teacher, group leader, parent, etc.

  9. Can my large group sign up together on the same day?
    Yes, large groups may sign up together for float decoration; however, each individual name in the group must be entered to accurately reserve meals and t-shirts in advance.  Bus seats will fill up quickly, so large groups are encouraged to register early.

  10. I can't make it to decorate but I want to still come and view the float. Is that possible?
    Yes, float viewing is available on Float Judging Day, December 31st, 2007.  Those who would like to view the Float must pre-register for this excursion on the City's web site at www.PalmdaleRoseFloat.com or by calling the Palmdale Parks and Recreation office at 661/267-5611.  Those that wish to register in person may do so at the Palmdale Parks and Recreation office Monday through Friday 8a.m. - 4:30p.m. located at 38260 10th Street East.

  11. I've participated in the past. Am I automatically registered for this year?
    No. Due to the popularity of this event, participation is limited to a first-come, first-served basis. We encourage you to register as soon as possible for best availability.

  12. Who will be riding on the float?
    Float riders will be announced in late November.

  13. Can I purchase a 2008 Palmdale Rose Parade pin?
    Yes, 2008 City of Palmdale Rose Parade pins will be available for sale at the Palmdale Fall Festival October 13th and 14th and also at the decorating site in Duarte.

  14. Will I be mailed a map and directions to the decorating site in Duarte?
    Yes, all registered participants will receive a map and directions in the mail as confirmation of their registration.

  15. Is a Release Form needed this year?
    Yes, a Release Form is required for all participants. Release forms will be available on the bus for those boarding the bus to Duarte and at the decoration tent in Duarte for those choosing the self-drive option. All participants will be required to sign a release form before beginning to decorate the float. All minors must be accompanied by a responsible adult who can sign a Release Form on their behalf before beginning their shift.

  16. Will more information be sent out about what to wear and expect?
    Yes, all registered participants will receive a map, directions, and an informational handout describing what to wear and what to expect during your decorating experience. This letter will serve as confirmation of your registration.

  17. Can I sign up my friend or neighbor?
    Yes, however you will need complete contact information for your friend or neighbor including their full name, mailing address, phone number, birthday, and email. If they are a Palmdale resident, you will also need a proof of residency for them. If they are not a Palmdale resident, you will not need proof of residency.

  18. Do I have to fax in proof of residency if I live outside of Palmdale?
    No. You are only required to fax in proof of residency if you want to claim Palmdale residency (discount) for future activities and excursions.

  19. My friend or neighbor can't go now. Can I go in their place?
    Unfortunately, no. Due to the popularity of this event, waiting lists have been created and those waiting lists are used to fill cancellations.

  20. The City of Palmdale float decorating shifts are ALL filled. What now?
    Waiting lists are available on all individual shifts however due to the high popularity of this event, cancellations may or may not occur. For those individuals that would still like to decorate ANY float (not the City of Palmdale's float) they may contact Fiesta Parade Floats at 626-301-1433 by mid-November to check on available openings. Unfortunately, individuals who sign-up directly with Fiesta will not be provided transportation, group meals, or be permitted to decorate the City of Palmdale's 2008 float. Thank you for understanding the popularity of this event.
