Frequently Asked Questions

How long may I keep an item I have checked out?
All circulating items are checked out for two weeks. Each item may be renewed twice for two weeks each time unless someone has placed a hold on it.
May I renew an item at any Palmdale City Library location, no matter where I checked it out?
Yes. If you check items out from the Youth Library, for example, you may renew them at the Youth Library, the Main Library or the Bookmobile.

You may also renew them yourself on the Library's Web site. To do so, open the Library's catalog by clicking on Catalog Access. Select My Record and enter your name, card number and PIN. If you do not have a PIN, you will be prompted to create one. Once you access your record, a list of the items you current have out will appear. You may choose to Renew All or to Renew Selected.If you prefer to renew your items by phone, you may call the renewal line at 267-5277.
May I return an item to any Palmdale City Library location, no matter where I checked it out?
Yes. If you check items out from the Bookmobile, for example, you may return them to the Youth Library, the Main Library or the Bookmobile.
May I pay my fines at any Palmdale City Library location?
Yes. You may pay your outstanding fines at the Main Library, the Youth Library, on the Bookmobile or from the Library's online catalog using a Mastercard or VISA credit card.
Do you accept checks for fines?
Yes, but only for amounts over $10.00. For amounts less than that, you will need to pay in cash or by credit card (see below.)
May I use a credit card to pay fines and fees?
Yes, you may use either Mastercard and VISA credit cards to pay fines and fees in the Library catalog. To do so, go to My Record and access your account. If you have an outstanding balance, the amount will appear on the screen along with a link that will take you to a secure page where you can enter your card information and pay your balance.
May I use my County of Los Angeles Public Library card (the green card) at the Palmdale City Library?
No. The Palmdale City Library is not a part of the County of Los Angeles Public Library system. You will need a Palmdale City Library card to check material out.
Do you have typewriters?
Yes, there are two typewriters in the Main Library and one typewriter in the Youth Library for public use. They are coin-operated and cost $0.25 per 15 minutes.
Do you have a fax machine?
No, We do not have fax machines for public use.
Do you have out of the area phonebooks?
Yes. We have a selection of California phonebooks and a limited collection of out of state phonebooks. A complete list of phonebooks is available at the Main Library.
Do you have yearbooks?
Yes. We have high school yearbooks for Lancaster High School, Paraclete High School, Palmdale High School, Pete Knight High School, Antelope Valley High School, Quartz Hill High School, Highland High School, and Littlerock High School. Yearbooks can not be checked out.
