Policy #220 - Rules of Conduct
To provide a clean, comfortable and quiet environment for library use, the Board of Library Trustees has established the following rules of conduct:
Not permitted in the Library:
- animals (except service animals)
- conducting business
- soliciting or petitioning
- selling items without written permission of the City Librarian
- defacing, destroying or tampering with Library materials, equipment or property
- interference with the privacy of Library users
- loud talking or abusive language
- inappropriate attire (shirts and shoes required)
- drinking
- eating
- smoking
- feet on furniture
- moving furniture
- running, jumping or climbing
- use of rollerblades, skateboards or other sports equipment
- sleeping, bathing, or washing personal items
- disruptive use of audio equipment
- use of cell phones or audible pagers
For your safety and the safety of others:
- do not block Library entrances, exits or aisles
- keep children under the age of eight under direct supervision (see Policy 210 - Unsupervised Children)
- keep personal items with you at all times
- the only wheeled vehicles permitted in the Library are wheelchairs and strollers
Library users who do not follow these policies may be asked to leave the Library for the remainder of the day. Those who continue to disregard these rules of conduct may be asked to leave the Library for an extended period of time. Any suspension of more than one day will be imposed by the City Librarian or designated representative.
