Palmdale 27 Logo Introduction
On March 23, 1992 the City of Palmdale entered into a franchise agreement with Cable TV Fund 12-BCD Venture to provide cable television services. The franchise was initially assigned to Jones Intercable, then Comcast then Adelphia and now Time Warner with an expiration set for March 23, 2007.

The first program to air on Channel 27 was "live" coverage of the City Council meeting on February 14, 2005. Currently Time Warner has approximately 69,000 household subscribers and provides service in Acton, Elizabeth Lake, Lancaster, Leona Valley, Little Rock, Palmdale, Pearblossom and Quartz Hill.

City of Palmdale communications department staff produces a variety of programming for the City of Palmdale, which is cablecast a few days a week.

How long has Palmdale 27 been programming?
Palmdale 27 has been producing regular programming for the community since February 2005. Live cablecasts of City Council meetings began on Feb. 14, 2005.

On October 24, 2005, the City began live webcasting of City Council meetings on the City's Web site www.cityofpalmdale.org. This provides a way for those who do not have access to Time Warner cable Channel 27 to keep informed about the City's progress and current projects by viewing the council meetings.

How many hours of programming are cablecast a week?
Palmdale 27 programming runs 24 hours a day, seven days a week. It currently features about 10 hours of video coverage a week, including live coverage of City Council meetings on the first and third Wednesdays of each month beginning at 7 pm; original programming on a magazine-style show called Backdrop Palmdale that is produced every other month; and news segments covering groundbreakings, grand openings and City-sponsored seminars on a variety of topics. In addition to video coverage, Palmdale 27 shows rotating slides about City projects and programs and meeting notices at times when video coverage is not running.

How many hours of programming are webcast a week?
Palmdale 27 programming runs 24 hours a day, seven days a week on the World Wide Web. Whatever content is appearing on the cable channel Palmdale 27 is simultaneously webcast on the City's Web site. Viewers may click on "Watch It Now!" from the Web site homepage at www.cityofpalmdale.org or go directly to www.cityofpalmdale.org/services/palmdale27.html and click on "Live Webcast of Palmdale 27 Programming."

Who provides equipment for Palmdale 27?
The City of Palmdale purchased approximately $360,000 in video production equipment. This includes portable production gear, post-production (editing) equipment, and fixed-site production equipment for the City Council.

How is Palmdale 27 programming publicized?
Palmdale 27 program schedules are posted on the Palmdale 27 Web site at www.cityofpalmdale.org and with regular press releases announcing new programs.

Is all programming produced by Palmdale 27 staff for cablecast?
Staff produces nearly all content. Staff also uses public service announcements from other government agencies.

What is the annual budget for Palmdale 27?
The 2006-2007 budget for Palmdale Channel 27 is approximately $125,000 including one staff member's salary and benefits.
