Installation date: April 17-18, 2021 Location: DryTown Water Park, 3850 E Ave S
This project was envisioned as an opportunity to engage our community in a public art installation that will brighten our lives and bring color and beauty to otherwise ordinary crosswalks. The existing grid pattern at the crosswalks was an easy template for artist guided volunteers to paint, or “peace together” – a play on words on puzzle pieces – an interlocking rainbow pattern. Resident volunteers of the Antelope Valley came together to paint the colorful design creating a new public art feature in Palmdale.
The interlocking rainbow design was created by the City's Public Art Coordinator George Davis, who infused the pattern in the crosswalk with bright rainbow colors. Artist volunteer leaders Christopher Minsal and Xochilt Garcia assisted the volunteers and guided them with painting tips throughout the process, supported by the expertise of Hector Corado from Dunn Edwards. The project was a unique partnership with Dunn Edwards Paints, the City, and local residents who leave behind something for everyone to enjoy each time they visit DryTown.
