Looking to get involved with your community? Not sure where to start? Our community offers many opportunities for individuals and families to volunteer their time. Volunteers are a critical part of many agencies’ ability to offer programs and assist families in need. Volunteering strengthens our commitment to the community we share.

Family Volunteer Day 2022 Saturday, Nov. 19

This year we have several opportunities for the whole family. Please choose the event you want to participate in, and let’s start this Holiday Season by giving.

Donation Sorting for Christmas, birthday presents, and community giveaways: 

Volunteers will assist SAVES staff in sorting a large donation of books, and other items for Christmas, Birthday presents, and Community giveaways. Due to the small workspace, volunteers will be provided with masks, and COVID-19 social distancing and safety protocols will be in place. Volunteers should wear closed-toed shoes and dress appropriately for temperature as some projects may occur outside. This volunteer opportunity is best suited for volunteers older than 12 yrs and with no physical restrictions. Please keep in mind that an adult must accompany youth under 16. All volunteers must fill out a release of liability form to participate. 

When:  9 p.m. to 12 p.m.

Thanksgiving Basket Prep

Volunteers will assist SAVES staff in preparing for the holidays by assembling holiday meal baskets and other items. Due to the small workspace, COVID-19 social distancing and safety protocols will be in place. Volunteers should wear closed-toed shoes and dress appropriately for temperature as some projects may occur outside. This volunteer opportunity is best suited for volunteers older than 10 yrs and without physical restrictions. Please keep in mind that an adult must accompany youth under 16. All volunteers must fill out a release of liability form to participate.

Holiday Card/ crafts for Seniors

Volunteers will decorate holiday cards for senior clients to receive with their food orders. Please dress appropriately to use paint, markers, glue, and glitter. This volunteer opportunity is best suited for younger volunteers (four yrs. +) and those who need to be seated while working. Please keep in mind that an adult must accompany youth under 16. All volunteers must fill out a release of liability form to participate.

Greater Avenues to Independence (GAIN) /Transitional Subsidized Employment (TSE) Participants

The City accepts community service participants from GAIN based on program needs. Participants must complete a program interview and background check prior to acceptance. For placement availability, please call 661-267-5473.

Service Learning

Student Interns

The City accepts students and interns based on City needs. Students should contact the City well in advance if they would like to intern for a specific department or program.

Service Hours

Students completing school-required hours (20 hours or less) who are 16 years of age or older may contact South Antelope Valley Emergency Services (SAVES) at 661-267-5191. Service hours are Monday through Thursday, 7:30 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Court Referred Community Service

The City accepts court referred community service in select programs. A referral must be completed from the Volunteer Center of Los Angeles prior to registering for a City program.
